INSTALLATION AND STARTUP GUIDE
for the
OWL PERSONAL PORTFOLIO MANAGER (OPPM)
VERSION 4.1
DOS CONFIGURATION
For proper operation of all functions, the OWL Personal
Portfolio Manager requires that the number of DOS file handles
be set to 20 or more. The number of DOS file handles is
established when you boot your computer and is derived as
either a default value or from the standard file "CONFIG.SYS"
which must reside in the root directory of your start-up disk
drive. For proper operation, you MUST HAVE the file
"CONFIG.SYS" in the root directory of your start-up disk and it
MUST contain the line "FILES=20" (values above 20 are
acceptable). Assuming your start-up disk is the C drive, you
can create this file very quickly by typing the following:
COPY CON: C:\CONFIG.SYS
FILES=20
Ctrl-Z (Press "Ctrl" and "Z" keys together)
Once you have added or edited the "CONFIG.SYS" file, you must
re-boot your computer for the changes to take effect. Consult
your DOS manual for additional information.

strongly suggest that you read the user's guide.
UPGRADING FROM VERSION 3 AND ABOVE
To use your data from OPPM Version 3 or above, you may either
set the data directory to the directory where your existing
data resides using the "Logged Dir" option or you may copy your
existing FOL.DBF, SEC.DBF, PUR.DBF, INC.DBF, AL.DBF and PRICE.DBF
to the new OPPM Version 4.1 directory (\OPPM41 for hard disk in-
stallations).
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
OPPM requires a minimum of 640K of memory and a graphics
monitor (CGA, EGA, VGA or Hercules). If you receive an "OUT OF
MEMORY" message when running OPPM, try removing some of your
memory resident drivers and programs from memory. If you are
using DOS 5.0+ you may be able to load memory resident drivers
and programs into high memory. Consult your DOS manual.
